I get it. You're not an actor and you're not a model. So why do you need to have a professional headshot made? This is a frequent topic of conversation when I tell people what I do. In short, you never get a second chance to make a first impression. Maybe you have one but it's outdated. Perhaps you lost some weight, got a haircut, or shaved. It's 2017 and it's time to show the world you've got it together.

In today's market the first impression is often made from an online profile. Facebook, LinkedIn, etc are examples of an online platform that employers or future customers are likely to use to take a look at before they ever meet you. The profile pic that you use to represent your personal brand on is a high value opportunity to impress. Our business and personal profiles mix more than we ever thought it would. In today's day in age it's almost impossible to separate the two and like it or not people will judge you based on your appearance. This is the world we live in. It is better for you to brand yourself in the way you want to be viewed vs. letting others brand you based on a selfie.

You may feel that it's wrong to judge others based on a picture and you may be right about that. However, there is nothing that you can do to change this behavior. What you can do, though, is own it. This part of the job search & hiring process and is something that you can directly influence... and you should. Seek out someone who is experienced in business headshots and has your best interest in mind.
